2nd Day of Russia Visit Gujarat CM attends India-Russia Cooperation in the Russian Far East Seminar

Gandhinagar, Monday : Gujarat Chief Minister Mr. Vijay Rupani on the 2nd day of his visit to Russia with the representatives from diamond industry attended plenary session on India-Russia cooperation in the Russian Far East at Vladivostok in Russia. Deputy Prime Minister of Russia and Presidential Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District Yury Trutnev accompanied the CM. Mr. Rupani has joined the visit of Indian Delegation to Russia headed by Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Mr. Piyush Goyal along with 28 business leaders from Gujarat.

The CM expressed that Gujarat and Russian Fast East Region together will set up new opportunities of strengthening trade relations between Russia and Gujarat. Referring to the enormous potential of trade and commerce between Gujarat and Russia in diamond sector Mr. Rupani said that, Russia has world’s largest reserves of diamond. World’s one third portion of rough diamonds are available in Russia.

On the other hand, India is also world’s largest center for cutting and polishing of rough diamond. 80% diamonds are processed in Gujarat and 95% processed diamonds are exported from India all over the world.  Surat has the largest diamond cutting and polishing industry across the world, at that moment partnership of Russia and Gujarat in diamond industry sector will prove importantr and suitable.

Mr. Rupani said that there had been a close friendly relation between India and Russia since many years. India’s relations with Russia have been emotional for the past seven decades. Our Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Russia and Russia’s President Mr. Putin’s visit to India are expected to meet a new level of bilateral relations in which Gujarat will also play and important role.

Appreciating the Russia’s initiative to strengthen relation with India Mr. Rupani said that, more than 60 members from Russian delegation have participated in both series of Vibrant Gujarat 2017 and 2019.

Rosneft, Russia’s leading company in the energy sector, announced the largest foreign investment in India for the single project Nayara Energy at the Vadinar refinery in Gujarat, said Rupani. Sectors like machine industries, oil and gas, metal and mining, diamond, tourism and transport, logistics are the areas of interest for India and Gujarat in the Russian Far East Region, he added.

Mr. Rupani also urged to promote business relations between Gujarat and Russian Far East Region and to establish a processing facility in Gujarat as well in Vldivostok. Russia’s experience in the field of advanced technology and advanced equipment for the use of Gold and Diamond Mining, Metal Science and Natural Resources will prove useful for the companies of India –Gujarat.

Describing Gujarat’s tactics with Russian delegation Mr. Rupani said, Gujarat contributes 8% to India’s GDP and 17% to industrial output and more than 20% of the country’s total exports.

Gujarat has been leading state in the sectors like Chemicals, Petrochemicals, Textiles, Gems & Jewelry and Ceramics with an economic growth rate of over 10% over the last decade. These seminar was attended by members of the Indian delegation including the Chief Ministers of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana and the Russian delegation.
