CM performs ground breaking ceremony of India’s First Desalination plant for industrial purpose at Dahej
Chief Minister of the state Mr. Vijay Rupani performed the ground breaking ceremony for India’s First Desalination Plant for industrial purpose at Dahej. Constructed by GIDC, the capacity of the plant will be 100 MLD, spread in an area of 25 hectares. The estimated cost for the same will be Rs.881 crores.
As much as 555 MLD of water will be available upon completion of the project. Gujarat is only the second state in India after Tamil Nadu to set up a desalination plant. The sea water has a high amount of turbidity and chlorine which calls for Reverse Osmosis for purification. A settling pond, spread in an area of 20 acres, will be constructed for the same.
Being an industrial area, there is a constant requirement for water. The existing Water Supplies scheme has been established with the capacity of 454 MLD. The water requirement is likely to rise to 1000 MLD with the completion of PCPIR. It is to be noted here that the Chief Minister resolved for setting up 8 desalination plants across Gujarat in order to meet the growing requirements of water.
The desalination plant at Dahej, constructed by GIDC, is a part of the same. The CM said, “The Dahej PCPIR is one of the fastest developing regions in India. It has witnessed investments of more than Rs.1 lakh crore. The construction of this desalination plant is a step towards making Gujarat a self-sufficient state in terms of water requirements.”
Gujarat’s contributed 19% to the total GDP in agriculture sector for 2017-18 and 27% in the manufacturing sector. Gujarat accounted for 20.4% share in GSDP in the agriculture sector and 44% in the manufacturing sector. The state has been leading India in the industrial sector through its transparent, fast paced and progressive policies and projects.
The CM talked about the role of GIDC in Gujarat’s industrial sector. GIDC will shortly commence a program to solve problems faced by industries. The CM also announced for the construction of a Sports Complex at Ankleshwar GIDC, in Bharuch. Minister of State for Co-operation Mr, Ishwarsinh Patel said, “The state government is dedicated to ensure unprecedented growth in the industrial sector. In addition to that, the government ensures environmental conservation as well.”
Chairman of GIDC Mr. Balwantsinh Rajput said, “16 more GIDC have been established in the state to promote industrial growth. 1.80 lakh people are employed at Dahej PCPIR. In addition to that, it will generate employment for 7 lakh people in the days to come.” M.D of GIDC Mr. M. Thennarasan said, “As many as 180 industrial units are operational at Dahej PCPIR at present. Investments worth Rs.16 thousand crores have been made in the region in order to provide the necessary infrastructural facilities.
2 new roads of 120 meters and 150 meters each will be constructed at Dahej PCPIR in the days to come. L&T and Deepak Fertilisers gave checks worth Rs.5 lakhs and Rs.1.11 lakhs respectively to the Chief Minister for Kanya Kelavani Fund. Principal Secretary of Industries and Mines Mr. M.K Das, Collector Dr. M.D Modia, DDO Mr. Arvind Vijayan, officials and a large number of people were present during the event.
