PM to declare India as Open Defecation Free on 2nd October 2019 at Sabarmati Riverfront
Gandhinagar, Wednesday: Deputy Chief Minister of Gujarat Mr. Nitin Patel announced that Prime Minister of India Mr. Narendra Modi will declare India as Open Defecation Free (ODF) at Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad on 2nd October, 2019 i.e on the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

The Prime Minister will address a gathering of more than 20,000 sarpanchs out of which 10,000 will be from Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Haryana, Bihar and many other states in addition to 10,000 sarpanchs from Union Territories. It is estimated that there will be more than 60% women attendees in the event.

10,000 sarpanchs from various states will be divided into four zones namely Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Mehsana and be made to visit a number of places that remind of the Mahatma such as Gandhi Ashram, Dandi Kutir, etc. In addition to that, they will also catch a glimpse of the traditional garba. More than 400 buses have been arranged for providing transportation facility.

It is to be noted here that 2nd October, 2019 will be celebrated as Swachhata Divas across the country. An invitation has been extended to Ministers from the Union Government and dignitaries from various parts of the world.
