01 Nov 2022 – IOC President Thomas Bach was today presented with the International Hockey Federation (FIH)’s President’s Award for Peace and Friendship. It was given to him by the current acting President of the FIH, Seif Ahmed.
The award was first announced at the FIH Congress in 2021, but restrictions during the global pandemic meant that the trophy could only be presented in person today at Olympic House.
The citation for the award praises President Bach for: “His exemplary forthrightness, dedication and determination to bring the world together through sport.” It goes on: “Dr Thomas Bach has proved how sports can bring the whole world together, setting a remarkable example by planning, negotiating and implementing the participation of North and South Korea under one unified flag at the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018.”
Receiving the award today, President Bach said: “It is an honour to receive this award from the FIH, and I would like to thank the hockey family for its continued great cooperation.”
