10 December 2025 – The International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board (EB), meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland, today agreed to adjust the timeline for decision-making on the sports programme for the French Alps 2030 Olympic Winter Games.
Key Facts
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board (EB), meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland, today agreed to adjust the timeline for decision-making on the sports programme for the French Alps 2030 Olympic Winter Games.
After the seven sports on the initial sports programme were approved at the 142nd IOC Session in Paris last year, the decision on the discipline programme for these sports, originally scheduled for this month’s meeting, was moved to the IOC EB meeting in June 2026, alongside the decision on events and athlete quotas.
The IOC EB also adjusted the timeline for the selection of any additional sports that may be proposed by the French Alps 2030 Organising Committee for the Olympic Winter Games (OCOG). The proposed additional sports will be submitted to the 146th IOC Session later in 2026.
The review of disciplines and additional sports will be based on defined evaluation criteria designed to ensure a comprehensive and objective assessment.
The revised timeline is intended to provide additional time to analyse the implications of proposed disciplines. This will also ensure alignment with the calendar of the Olympic Programme Working Group’s discussions as part of the IOC’s “Fit For The Future” process.
A central priority for the IOC remains the delivery of sustainable and cost-efficient Games. To identify efficiencies and reduce complexity within the sports programme, the IOC is continuing to work in close collaboration with the International Sports Federations and the OCOG to support the implementation of streamlined and sustainable Winter Games.
