NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–UNIFI Communications (UNIFI) is proud to announce the launch of the Alasia Cable Project, a critical subsea fiber-optic infrastructure initiative that will significantly improve digital connectivity between Syria and Cyprus. This critical project made possible through a license from the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), positions UNIFI as the primary contractor and owner alongside CYTA (Cyprus Telecommunications Authority) and Syrian Telecom.
The Alasia Subsea Cable will provide modern, high-capacity connectivity to address Syria’s growing digital needs as it embarks on a new era of reconstruction. Equipped with state-of-the-art 4×800 Gbps technology, the project will offer faster, more reliable, and expanded international connectivity. This initiative will support business growth, and societal progress during Syria’s historic transition.
“We are honored that OFAC has entrusted UNIFI with this initiative to address Syria’s digital needs,” said Adrian Shatku, CEO of UNIFI Communications. “The Alasia Cable will serve as a digital bridge, reconnecting Syria to global networks, fostering confidence, and enabling the sustainable rebuilding of its economy.”
More than just infrastructure, the Alasia Cable represents renewal and progress, symbolizing a commitment to new secure, scalable connectivity. Collaboration between UNIFI, CYTA, and Syrian Telecom highlights the importance of public-private partnerships in rebuilding Syria’s communications. Key Benefits of the Alasia Cable Project:
- Modern Critical Connectivity: High-speed, reliable connectivity for businesses, educational institutions, healthcare providers, and individuals, enabling access to the global digital economy.
- Economic Development: Supporting Syrian businesses, institutions, and international organizations with scalable, affordable solutions critical for reconstruction.
- OFAC Compliance: Fully aligned with U.S. sanctions, the project enhances Syria’s ability to attract international investment and partnerships during its new era transition.
New Era for Syria: Syria’s reliance on fragile international connectivity and aging subsea infrastructure like the Ugarit Cable, the Alasia Project provides critical resilience, stability, and scalability. By delivering modern infrastructure, it supports the foundation for Syria’s renewed aim for growth in the post-Assad Era.
