Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony Performance wins GRAMMY Award

03 February 2025 – French metal band Gojira, Franco-Swiss opera singer Marina Viotti and French composer Victor Le Masne have won a prestigious GRAMMY Award^® for their performance of “Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça ira!)” at the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games Paris 2024.

Viotti said: “I want to say thank you to everybody who recognised this song and this performance as a mix of two different types of music. It shows a very important message to the world, because when we build bridges and bring things that are different together, it can be unique, it can be beautiful.”

For his part, Le Masne said: “First I would like to thank the International Olympic Committee for their openness. It was a totally unique mix of genres blending so well together.”
 

I would like to congratulate Gojira, Marina Viotti and Victor Le Masne on their Grammy Award. Recognising this performance shows the importance of the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony as both a sporting and cultural stage globally. This was an iconic moment blending different genres of music, underlining the artistic vision of the Ceremony. Their epic version of the French revolutionary song, entitled “Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça ira!)”, composed by Le Masne, saw Gojira frontman Joe Duplantier, drummer Mario Duplantier, lead guitarist Christian Andreu and bassist Jean-Michel Labadie thrill crowds from platforms extending from the Conciergerie, a former prison and courthouse beside the River Seine, accompanied by Viotti on a wooden boat and a thrilling pyrotechnics display.
