Bortolotti-Grosjean-Kvyat lead GTP assault while trio of Huracáns seek GTD victory in Florida

Sant’Agata Bolognese/Sebring, 11 March 2025 –The Lamborghini SC63 returns to action in the GTP class of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, which heads to Sebring in Florida for the second round of the 2025 season this weekend.

Factory drivers Mirko Bortolotti, Romain Grosjean and Daniil Kvyat will be aboard the #63 Automobili Lamborghini run prototype for the 12 Hours of Sebring, the scene of the first competitive outing for the car on US soil one year ago.

After a promising opening round of the year in Daytona, the trio of Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2s will also be looking forward to a strong weekend, with the #9 Pfaff Motorsport GTD Pro operation complemented by the pair of GTD class contenders, the #45 Wayne Taylor Racing and #78 Forte Racing Huracáns.

The 2025 IMSA campaign got off to a bumpy start at the Daytona 24 Hours in January for the SC63, with mechanical trouble forcing the car to retire inside the opening hour. The Sebring weekend, however, could suit the car better after enjoying a successful maiden voyage last year where the car finished on the lead lap and scored points with a well-earned seventh place finish. All three drivers have past experience on the notoriously tricky and mechanically demanding former airfield track, with Bortolotti a three-time podium finisher in GTD (including victory in 2019), while Grosjean was part of the GTP crew which raced in the 2024 edition.

Daytona showcased the strengths of the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2, with all three cars in the hunt for a top result. Unfortunately for the #9 and #78, incidents beyond their control curtailed their hopes of victory while the #45 was denied a likely podium finish with suspension failure in the final hour. Despite these setbacks, the pace of the Huracán was evident across the weekend and may bode well for the 12 Hours of Sebring.

Full season IMSA drivers Andrea Caldarelli and Marco Mapelli are once again joined by former IndyCar driver James Hinchcliffe – who will contest the full Endurance Cup campaign – for the weekend in the #9 Pfaff Motorsport car in GTD Pro. Danny Formal and Graham Doyle will be on double duty in Sebring, combining their GTD activities in the #45 WTR Huracán with the opening round of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America season. They are partnered by full-season driver and former Super Trofeo World Finals winner Trent Hindman. Completing the GTD line-up and looking to improve on their fifth-place finish from last year is the #78 Forte Racing combination of Mario Farnbacher, Misha Goikhberg and Parker Kligerman.

The weekend at a glance

Action kicks off on Thursday with three practice sessions, held respectively in the morning, afternoon and evening to give the crews a representative feeling of race conditions. Qualifying will take place on Friday, with the sessions again split by class. The 12 Hours of Sebring begins at 10:10 on Saturday morning.

Given the nature and topography of the Sebring International Raceway, mechanical and physical exertion will again be one of the myriad challenges of the 12 Hours. The airfield surface is renowned for its bumps which put additional strain through the transmissions, forcing higher ride heights as a result. Humidity in Florida will also undoubtedly play a part, particularly during the daylight hours of the race. High ambient temperatures and even more extreme cockpit conditions will push the drivers to their limits.
