17 February 2025 – The spectacular Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024 were recognised at the 40th Victoires de la Musique, winning in the “Concert of the Year” category. These prestigious French awards celebrate outstanding musical achievements, highlighting the artistic excellence that defined the Paris 2024 ceremonies.
Paris 2024 Artistic Director Thomas Jolly and Musical Director Victor Le Masne accepted the award during the Victoires de la Musique ceremony, which was held at La Seine Musicale in Paris. Le Masne, who composed and conducted the now-iconic symphonic piece “Parade” for the Opening Ceremony, expressed gratitude to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the more than 600 musicians involved in the ceremonies. “The diversity of French musical creation is endless,” he said. “This country is immensely rich in music, and that is what we wanted to express through these four ceremonies.”
Jolly reflected on the collective effort behind these historic moments, dedicating the award to both the creative teams and the global audiences who experienced them. “This award for the Olympic and Paralympic ceremonies belongs to everyone who helped bring them to life, but also to those who experienced them – whether in the stands, on the river banks, or watching on their screens,” he said.
The Paris 2024 ceremonies were widely celebrated for their artistic ambition and innovation, with the River Seine serving as a stage for the first-ever Olympic Games Opening Ceremony held outside a stadium. The Paralympic Closing Ceremony, held at Place de la Concorde, was also a standout moment, symbolising inclusion and creativity.
French composer Victor Le Masne also recently won a prestigious GRAMMY Award with French metal band Gojira and Franco-Swiss opera singer Marina Viotti for their performance of “Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça ira!)” at the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games Paris 2024.
