Connor Primm-Zulauf enter title mix with race one win in Paul Motorsport Huracán GT3 EVO2

Sant’Agata Bolognese/Zandvoort, 8 June 2025 – Lamborghini claimed its first ADAC GT Masters victory of the season, as Paul Motorsport’s Simon Connor Primm and Finn Zulauf overcame pre-race drama and a late safety car intervention to come out on top in race one at Zandvoort.

The result marks the 17th victory in ADAC GT Masters competition for Lamborghini and a fifth at the Zandvoort venue, while it is also the first-ever triumph for Paul Motorsport in the championship.

The Zandvoort weekend was a double celebration for the family-run team as co-owner and Lamborghini Young Professional Driver Maximilian Paul secured its first podium in the opening DTM race on Saturday, finishing third after an astute tactical call to start on slick tyres in a wet-dry encounter.

Connor Primm and Zulauf began the weekend competitively in free practice, before setting the third-quickest time in a rainy qualifying session on Saturday morning. The #33 crew was elevated to second on the grid for race one following a 10-place grid penalty for the #8 Team Engstler Huracán of Emil Gjerdrum and Jonas Karklys.

Off the rolling start, Connor Primm held position into the first corner, as series debutant Baptiste Moulin – replacing regular driver Dante Rappange – moved the #6 Team Engstler Lamborghini into third. Both Connor Primm and the leading Mercedes were lapping significantly faster than those behind and duly broke clear of Moulin who began to tumble down the order during his stint.

Connor Primm then moved into the lead as the Mercedes ground to a halt and proceeded to build a comfortable lead of nearly 10 seconds. The #33 pitted towards the end of the 10-minute pit window, making the most of a largely empty pit-lane to swap with Zulauf.

Zulauf remained in control out front despite his lead reducing marginally. The race was then neutralized with a full course yellow due to another stoppage for the Mercedes, with the field eventually bunched up again behind the safety car. The race restarted with just two laps to go but, despite coming under increasing pressure from the chasing BMW, Zulauf held his nerve brilliantly to secure the victory by just over three-tenths of a second.

On Sunday morning, Zulauf replicated his strong qualifying form from Lausitzring by taking pole position by just over a tenth of a second for race two. However, due to their victory in the opening race on Saturday, the #33 Huracán was handed an additional 15kg of success ballast, which meant a fighting fourth place was all they could manage. The best of the Lamborghinis was the #8 of Karklys and Gjerdrum who, after starting eighth on the grid remained in the hunt by the time the pit window opened. As a Pro-Am entry, they served 15-seconds less at the stops, which enabled the pairing to climb to fourth. Gjerdrum then caught and passed the Porsche of Alex Fach to capture a second successive Pro-Am victory and, more impressively, third place overall at the finish.

Finn Zulauf (#33 Paul Motorsport): “After missing out on what we felt was a certain victory at the Lausitzring, this was the best way to bounce back. The team really deserved this win. The end of the race was more tense than I would have liked.”

Simon Connor Primm (#33 Paul Motorsport): “At the start of the race I tried to get the car round the circuit nice and safely, and the lead increased all the time. The finish was nerve-racking, but Finn did a great job.”

Pole for Pepper and double podium for Thiim and Paul in DTM

Zandvoort was also the venue for the third round of the DTM season, and the weekend began strongly with the #63 TGI Team Lamborghini by GRT Huracán GT3 EVO2 of Jordan Pepper taking his maiden pole position on Saturday by just 0.008s. Ahead of the start, the weather began to change, leaving many crews taking differing strategies with tyres.

Like much of the leading runners, Pepper elected to keep it safe and fit wet tyres before switching to slicks by the time the mandatory pit-window opened. Starting 13th and 16th respectively, Maximilian Paul (#71 Paul Motorsport) and Nicki Thiim (#2 Abt Sportsline) gambled on slicks from the start, initially dropping to the back of the field before charging through after the stops.

Thiim inherited the lead of the race and made his stop with 20 minutes remaining, coming out just in front of the Porsche of Güven. However, the Dane could not keep his rival behind, on cold tyres, and settled for second, while Paul completed the podium in third. Further back, Pepper was left to rue a short rain shower around his stop and eventually finished seventh, one place ahead of defending champion Mirko Bortolotti (#1 Abt Sportsline).
