Tripadvisor Reveals Best Value Host Cities for Quarter and Semi Final Matches for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015

• Among the host cities, Adelaide offers the best value to travellers during quarter final and Auckland during semi-final matches

• Traffic from Pakistan grew the most to Australia (115%) and New Zealand (97%) in 2015

• Traffic from India to Australia grew by 38% in 2015 and to New Zealand by 26%

With the Indian cricket team making a place in the quarter finals the fervour of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 in India is only set to rise. TripAdvisor, the world’s largest travel site today revealed a report on cost comparison of all host cities for the quarter and semi-final matches of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015.

The first part is the TripIndex Survey, a cost comparison (in INR) of spending a day in each of the host cities for the quarter and semi-final matches (starting March 18^th): Adelaide, Sydney, Auckland, Wellington and Melbourne. The research analyses the average prices for an individual based on the following items: one ticket for an adult per match, accommodation, food, drinks and transportation.

The second part is the Trend Report which evaluates key trends on increase in outbound traffic from cricketing nations – India, Pakistan and United Kingdom; price fluctuation through the quarter-final, semi-final and final matches for hotels; comparison of hotels vs vacation rentals and lastly, Indian restaurants around all five match venues hosting . All the figures are based on TripAdvisor site data.

Speaking on the release of the report, Nikhil Ganju, Country Manager, TripAdvisor said, “With the Indian team’s fantastic performance in the World Cup so far, expectations from Indian fans are very high. It is every fans dream to watch the World Cup live. This report, with its in-depth cost comparisons will help travellers plan a perfect trip within their budget should they plan to travel down under for the upcoming matches either solo or with family.“

Looking at the cost comparison for forthcoming matches:

• For quarter finals – Overall, Wellington is the most expensive and Adelaide is the least expensive for travellers

• For semi-finals – Sydney turns out to be overall costlier than Auckland

2. Vacation rentals vs hotels (In INR)

Travellers with families (2 adults and 2 kids) looking at ‘two rooms’ also have an option to choose a vacation rental over staying in a hotel since in some cases it turns out to be a wiser option. For e.g. in Melbourne, a two room overnight stay in a 3 star hotel (for March 19 match) will approx. be 20% more expensive than a night spent in a two room vacation rental. This is considering the price per hotel room is INR 14,912 and vacation rental is INR 12,452.

Restaurants:

For Indians craving local cuisine, most host cities offer highly rated restaurants around the match venues hosting quarter, semi and final matches e.g. Melbourne has widest selection of restaurants offering Indian cuisine around it. The table below gives an idea of the number of restaurants around each ground that have Indian food on their menu.
