  • Genesis Magma Racing Trajectory Program drivers Jamie Chadwick, Mathys Jaubert and Dani Juncadella finished third at the 4 Hours of Portimão
  • The podium at the final round of the European Le Mans Series (ELMS) season confirmed them and the #18 IDEC Sport team in third place in the LMP2 Championship
  • Jaubert gave the team their best qualifying result of the season, setting the second-fastest time in the Saturday session
  • All three drivers showed good pace, demonstrating the value of a first full season in Prototype racing at the Portuguese circuit
  • The podium celebrations concluded a highly successful season for the drivers and team, which exceeded the expectations laid out at the beginning of the season

Le Castellet, France, 18 October 2025:  Genesis Magma Racing Trajectory Program drivers Jamie Chadwick, Mathys Jaubert and Dani Juncadella ended the 2025 European Le Mans Series (ELMS) season with a third-place finish at the 4 Hours of Portimão.

Drivers Put Experience to Use to Score Finale Podium

The team entered the finale weekend in contention for the LMP2 class title and showed strong pace during the preparations for the race. The potential of the drivers, and the #18 IDEC Sport-run ORECA 07, was shown in qualifying when Jaubert set the second-fastest lap, giving the team their first front row start of the season.

Starting the race, Chadwick showed the value of the year’s experience to make a pair of opportunistic moves to hold a position in the top five. She also wisely kept out of potentially costly trouble, handing over to Juncadella after nearly 90 minutes of racing. The Spaniard made the most of four fresh tires to climb from fifth to third in his stint, before Jaubert took to the track for the final part of the race in second place.

He was able to make up some time on the leader but could not close the gap to mount a challenge. In a final attempt to make up ground during the final 30 minutes he opted to save fuel and tires to potentially gain an advantage in the event of a late Safety Car. However, the final part of the race ran uninterrupted, leaving him to cross the line third.

The result was their fourth podium in six races — following wins at Barcelona, Le Castellet and Silverstone — completing an excellent season for the entire team, which included up to 17 engineers, mechanics and support staff from Genesis Magma Racing.

Race and Championship Results Exceed Trajectory Program Targets

The podium result confirmed the drivers and team in third place in the LMP2 class championship, an excellent result for three drivers in the first full season of Prototype racing.

Though never the main target for the Trajectory Program, the results on track were proof of the execution of the central aim of the entry into the European Le Mans Series: for both drivers and team to gain experience of endurance racing and learn what is required to succeed in preparation for Genesis Magma Racing’s entry into the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2026.

Winning half of the season’s six races for the LMP2 class title up until the final round exceeded the initial targets of the Program. Most important, however, was the clear progress made by all three drivers during the season, with all three recognising their improvement from race to race in both how they handled on-track situations and worked with the team between sessions and events.

Post Race Quotes – #18 IDEC Sport ORECA 07

Jamie Chadwick said: “I gained some places but also lost some places – it was a bit messy. I wanted to stay out of trouble and bring the car back in a good place. I think I did that, but we didn’t quite have the pace today to do what we needed to take home the LMP2 championship. We can look back on the season really positively. Dani keeps saying it, but if you gave us P3 at the end of the year at the beginning of the year, we all would have taken it for sure. I felt like a fish out of water in the first race in Barcelona, but now I’m feeling much more comfortable and able to fight in my stints. So, the progression has been nice, but of course, you want to keep progressing, keep doing more, and hopefully that will come. We’ve had three wins and some amazing moments. It’s been an incredible year for us as a whole team, a lot of learnings. We can be very proud of what we’ve achieved, even if now it feels a bit bittersweet; I think we can still take a lot of pride in it and look forward to the future.”

Daniel Juncadella said: “My stint was a bit frustrating with traffic. On one lap I think I lost six seconds with someone that I didn’t want to take a risk with. I felt comfortable in the car. Obviously, we were lacking a bit of pace compared to our competitors, but we can be happy with how we executed the whole season. If you told me we were going to finish third in the season with three wins, one podium, after starting with no experience in this car for Jamie, Mathys and I, I would have cut off one leg and half an arm. I‘m very happy and very proud of myself as well in terms of performance. In Barcelona, I didn’t feel I was at the level I wanted, and it took me a couple of races to reach there. I think I delivered what is expected from a professional driver and keep growing, and I gained the trust for Genesis Magma Racing for next year in the WEC, so a pretty incredible season, I would say.”

Mathys Jaubert said: “I was pushing from the first start of my stint because I had Tom Dillmann just behind me that I needed to keep behind me, which I did until the pitstop. For the second part of the stint, I was just trying to save fuel, a bit of plank and a bit of tires, but it was not enough. My teammates made no mistakes, and no penalties, which is very important in this kind of racing. We were hoping for a Safety Car, but it didn’t happen. We were fast enough to be in the top three and we finished in P3. The target for the year was to finish regularly in the top five and I think that job is clearly done. My teammates are just amazing and I’m very proud of what we built this year. I’m very happy about the year we did. We improved every race. Personally, I learned a lot in terms of traffic management, and how to speak to the engineer and build a relationship and understanding with them, which is one of the most important things to improve the team and to build the real team spirit.”

Genesis Magma Racing Team Principal Cyril Abiteboul said: “When we began the season with our Trajectory Program in the European Le Mans Series we set our goal to be challenging for top fives and, above all, to be learning at every race, every opportunity. I can happily say we have achieved and even exceeded those targets. The results speak for themselves – three wins and another podium in six races to take third in the championship. What is even more important is seeing how Mathys, Jamie and Dani have progressed through the season, gaining experience in endurance racing and in Prototypes, exactly as we wanted. In addition to the drivers, we have had up to 17 staff members from Genesis Magma Racing working with IDEC Sport at ELMS races this season, experiencing what is needed to succeed in endurance racing. Everyone has worked excellently together all year to make the first season of the Genesis Magma Racing Trajectory Program a success.”
